A highly fragrant flower which produces an exquisite essential oil. Ylang-ylang oil was originally produced for the perfume industry. The tree is grown in the Comores Islands, Java and Madagascar, and traditionally the flowers were used by the islanders to adorn the beds of newly weds. The flowers were infused to produce an oil that was placed on the skin and hair to help protect it from the elements.
There are six recognised fractions Ylang-ylang Super Extra, Extra, First, Second, Third, and Complete. The Third is derived from the final stage of distillation.
